  • Native of Boston, Massachusetts and raised in Alexandria, Virginia
  • Rear Admiral Stevenson graduated from Tulane University with a Bachelors of Arts degree in political science in May of 1976.

Assignments / Engagements

  • Commissioned as an Ensign through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (Naval ROTC) in May 1976.
  • His sea service tours include: Electronic Material and Warfare Officer, Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer and First Lieutenant of the guided missile frigate USS Richard L. Page (FFG 5) homeported in Norfolk, Virginia; Combat Systems Officer and Engineer Officer in the guided missile frigate USS Aubrey Fitch (FFG 34) home-ported in Mayport, Florida; Commanding Officer of the minesweeper USS Engage (MSO 433) home-ported in Mayport, Florida; Executive Officer of the destroyer USS Spruance (DD 963) and Commanding Officer of Spruance home-ported in Mayport, Florida; Commander,Destroyer Squadron Fifteen in Yokosuka, Japan; Chief of Staff for Commander, 6th Fleet in Gaeta, Italy; and Commander, of the nuclear Aircraft Carrier Strike Group Twelve home-ported in Norfolk, Virginia.
  • Rear Admiral Stevenson’s primary shore assignments include: Staff Combat Systems Officer for Commander, Destroyer Squadron Eight in Mayport, Florida; Chief Military Secretary to the Director for Logistics (J4) for the Joint Staff in the Pentagon; Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations for Commander, Naval Forces Central Command/5th Fleet in Bahrain; and Executive Assistant for Commander, United States Naval Forces, Europe/Commander, Allied Forces, Southern Europe in Naples, Italy.
  • After being selected for Flag officer rank, Rear Admiral Stevenson was assigned on the Chief of Naval Operations Staff as the Director of Operations and Plans Division in the Pentagon.
  • Rear Admiral Stevenson’s final active duty assignment was as Commander, United States Naval Forces Southern Command in Mayport, Florida. He was responsible for all naval forces in the Caribbean, Central America and South American region.

Post Active Service:

  • Rear Admiral Stevenson retired from active duty in 2009, and is currently the Vice President of the Military, Public Safety and Security Division at Florida State College at Jacksonville.
  • He received a Master of Science degree in information systems from the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California.
