Growing up in the Lower 9th Ward, he attended Semes School, Holy Cross High School and the Times Picayune school prior to the beginning of WWII. Serving in the Navy on board Admiral Turner’s Flagship, the USS Rocky Mount, he participated in the invasions of the Marshall Islands before being selected to come out of the Fleet and attend the V-12 Officer program. Going from Asbury Park New Jersey Pre-Midshipmen’s school to Southwestern LA and eventually to the NROTC Unit at Tulane University, he was commissioned in the Supply Corps of the United States Navy Reserve in 1947. Following graduation he accepted a job with Firestone Corp. and then with Chambers Trucking. This lead to board Membership with the Louisiana Motor Transport Association. From here he went on to Howard Weil Labouisse Friedrichs, Inc. where he was a partner. Then to Wiener Corp. where he was CFO and eventually on to his own commercial real-estate and investment firm Deckert and Katz. During this career Warren was a board member of Tulane University, President of Dominican College and the Founding Chairman of the board of Directors for Holy Cross High School. He was a member of the advisory board for the Archdiocese of New Orleans, president of 3rd District Kiwanis Club, Commander of the American Legion Post, Military Order of the World Wars, Financial Analyst Association (President twice). A member of many social organizations, he was most proud of his 41 and ½ years in the Navy, retiring as a Captain, and his 57 straight years attending the Manresa Retreat House. Faith was the hallmark of Warren Deckert’s life, and all who knew him know that. For that reason, this is the most significant point of the litany of his accomplishments.
