Jerome B. Steen, 63, of River Thames Road, a lawyer, died of heart failure Saturday at home.
Services are 3 pm today at Georgetown Baptist Church in Georgetown with burial in Georgetown Cemetery in Georgetown. Visitation is 9-10:30 am today at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home and 1-2 pm today at the family home.
Mr. Steen was a Simpson County native and a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church. He was a 1955 graduate of Tulane University, where he served in Navy Reserve Officers Training Corps, and a 1960 graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Law. He was a member of Phi Delta Phi, Phi Kappa Phi and Oni Cron Delta Kappa. He was a member of the University of Mississippi Law Journal and Moot Court Board. He was a member of the Mississippi Bar Association, Hinds County Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He was a former commissioner of the Mississippi Bar Association. He was a member of the Defense Lawyers Association and the International Association of Defense Counsel. He was a fellow in the International Society of Barristers, former chairman of the Lamar Order of the University of Mississippi Law Alumni Association, former counsel for State Farm Insurance Companies.
Patricia M. Steen of Jackson said her husband loved law.
“His daddy talked to him about going to law school,” Patricia Steen said. “And he decided that law was exactly what he wanted to do. While at Tulane he was in political science and two go hand in hand almost. Practicing law was his love.”
Patricia Steen said her husband enjoyed an occasional game of golf.
Mr. Steen was a Navy veteran having reached rank of lieutenant commander. He was of counsel with the firm Steen, Reynolds, and Dalehite.
Other survivors include sons, J B. Steen Jr., of Hattiesburg and Clarence L. Steen II of Jackson; daughter, Pattie Steen Montgomery of Pearl; sister, Donyce Steen Anderson of Jackson; and three grandchildren.
