1930 – 2011
Douglas Joseph Joubert, Sr passed away suddenly on March 1, 2011 at the age of 80 from complications of double knee replacement surgery. Doug was a giant of a man in many ways and will be greatly missed. Doug was born to Lorraine and August Joubert on November 30, 1930. He had one sister Celeste Joubert Gagnon. Doug was an excellent student and played every sport he could. He attended St Aloysius High school where his continued good work was rewarded with an ROTC scholarship to Tulane University where he graduated in Chemistry. It was in Doug’s freshman year at Tulane that he met the love of his life Shirley Gracianette. They married on May 31, 1952. After serving in the Navy Doug began his long and successful career at Shell Oil first as a chemist then moving to One Shell Square as an Environmental liaison between Shell and the EPA. Doug retired from Shell at age 58 and proceeded to spend the next 22 years following his passions:Tulane Sports, the Saints, Tennis, his children’s and grandchildren’s lives, but mostly time with Shirley. He played competitive tennis into his 80s. He was the oldest player ever to win the Colonial Country Club Pro-Am tournament and played in multiple Senior Olympic tennis events around the country. Doug was a great mentor and advice giver. He was a calming influence. A humble man not interested in fame or fortune. And a strong faith filled Catholic man. He took his job as a Catholic Father very seriously and even took it a step further by teaching Catholic high school of religion for 20 years. He was filled with the Holy Spirit as he exhibited the traits of: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. We will be celebrating Doug and Shirley life at services found above in Shirley’s obit. All family and friends are welcome.
