1942 – 2022

Captain Laurence H. Turner, Jr. U.S. Navy (ret.), passed away 29-December following a long illness. A native of San Diego, Capt. Turner was born 23-March, 1942. After graduating ROTC from Tulane University, he went on to serve as a model officer during a 30-year career that included Commanding Officer tours aboard USS Paul F. Foster (DD964), USS Mount Whitney (LCC-20) and USS Saipan (LHA-2), as well as Commanding Officer – Naval Communication Station Rota, Spain. Capt. Turner is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sandra, son Laurence Turner III, son Christopher Turner, daughter Mary Tickle, and five beloved grandchildren.

“ During the period 1964-1968 Lt. Laurence H. Turner USN, NROTC Tulane Class of 1964 served in various assignments on ships off the RVN coast and ashore. He was Weapons Division Officer on the USS Nicholas DD 499 and the USS J. C. Owens dd 776. These ships participated in Operation Market Time, the interdiction of VC/NVA coastal traffic and also naval gunfire support to US and Vietnamese units. He also served as Deputy Senior Advisor An-Thoi-Nuc District.”
