1924 – 2023

It is with a sad heart that we announce the passing of Richard Orme Werlein.

WW2 veteran (Navy), Antarctic explorer, Tulane Law school Graduate. A good son of New Orleans.

At 98, his body could no longer hold the weight of his many years. He died peacefully in his sleep with family by his side.

“Buddy” lived in greater Houston and was loved by many. He practiced law for over 70 years and offered his services to everyone, regardless of their ability to afford representation. He never spoke ill of anyone, and his presence was larger than life.

He was preceded by his wife Virgia and is survived by his two sons, Frederick and Richard.

Memorial services will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home on Saturday, June 24 at 11:00am. Following, he will be interred with military honors and the admiration of those who knew him so well.

The world is a better place because of him and so many others like him. He will be sadly missed.
