85th Anniversary Luncheon

We held our luncheon honoring the 85th Anniversary of the Navy ROTC Unit at the Unit Building on Thursday, 19 October 2023.  The luncheon was very successful.  It was led off by the Marine Forces Reserve Band, which gave a medley of songs before the event as well as playing the National Anthem and Service Anthems during the event.

Our guest speaker, Bob Vince (1983), gave a wonderful and insightful speech about his time at Tulane NROTC, in the Navy, and in Nuclear Energy Program post-Navy.  The Provost, Dr. Robin Forman, attended the luncheon and spoke on behalf of President Fitz, who could not attend.  Dr. Forman spoke of the history and importance of the relationship between the Navy/Naval ROTC and Tulane University.  Both speeches were excellent and well-received.

In attendance were various alumni, midshipman, and deans of associated schools.  The luncheon was especially well-attended by the class of 1983, which celebrated their 40th anniversary by donating a large monetary gift to the Unit, which was greatly appreciated.  The luncheon, catered by Joie de Vie,  was delicious, with a varied and plentiful menu featuring a New Orleans flavor.

Our thanks to everyone who came and to those who helped make the event run smoothly and successfully.

Allumni Association Hosts Annual Meeting and Social

Your Tulane NROTC Alumni hosted a Homecoming gathering on Friday,  October 20, 2023 in the Unit Navy Building.  The event consisted of the Annual Meeting followed by a Reception Social.  During the meeting, a new slate of Board of Directors was elected to your board.  Also, the Treasurer reported that the association is solvent and up to date on all paperwork.  Captain Bowdich, the Unit Professor of Naval Science, gave a State of the Unit report that was encouraging and elicited many questions and comments.  Tim Huete, Association President, presented the happenings within the association.  Tom Dolan (‘75) and his wife, Marie, announced that they were starting a Midshipmen Fund for Tulane NROTC.  This fund is currently under review with Tulane University.  More details will follow as this is solidified and approved.  Then it was on to the socializing.  The Class of 1983 was well represented as it was a Homecoming milestone for them.  To remember and honor their time at Tulane NROTC, the group has given a generous donation to the Unit benefitting the Midshipmen.  The Social, a nicely catered affair by Joie de Vie, had alumni catching up with each other and reminiscing about times at Tulane.   It was great fun to listen to the retelling of their Navy or Marine Corps experiences.  What a wonderful afternoon!!
