Executive Officer JD Braun Retires

CDR J.D. Braun has concluded his distinguished 22-year Naval career and a retirement ceremony was held for him at the Tulane NROTC Navy Building on the campus of Tulane University on September 28, 2026. The unit and campus leadership recognized CDR Braun’s tremendous impact during his three years as Executive Officer of Tulane NROTC; he who served with distinction. This ceremony also recognized the service and sacrifice of CDR Braun’s wife, Aileen, and son, Nico, who stood beside him throughout the journey. Both “Old Glory” and “The Watch” were added as surprises for the Commander, enabling Midshipmen to assume the watch.
A Naval Aviator, CDR Braun has impressive credentials, with over 1500 flight hours aboard the MH-53E and MH-60S and has served all over the globe.
Under his leadership, the battalion saw a 37% increase in enrollment, completed multiple facility renovation projects, and significantly strengthened partnerships across Tulane University and the greater New Orleans community. CDR Braun’s commitment to developing future Navy and Marine officers, improving the unit’s infrastructure, and fostering lasting relationships with both on- and off-campus organizations has left a lasting legacy on the program.
The Midshipmen will remember their Executive Officer as a leader who was professional without being distant, demanding without being unreasonable, and approachable without sacrificing standards. Leadership is measured by the impact you leave on people, and by that standard, JD Braun had an extraordinary career.
