1924 - 2023 It is with a sad heart that we announce the passing of Richard Orme Werlein. WW2 veteran (Navy), Antarctic explorer, Tulane Law school Graduate. A good son of New Orleans. At 98, his body could no longer hold the weight of his many years. He died peacefully in his sleep with family by his side. “Buddy” lived in greater Houston and was loved by many. 1925 - 2021 Charles Leverich Eshleman, Jr., son of the late Charles Leverich Eshleman, MD and Anais Legendre Eshleman, died on February 25, 2021. He was 96 years old. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Helen Eileen Turner Eshleman and his sisters, Anais Eshleman Bezou and Kathleen Eshleman Maginnis. He is survived by his two children, Helen Eileen Eshleman Stewart (Parker) and Charles Leverich Eshleman, III (Helen). I graduated from Tulane in Feb 1944 with a BBA degree, was commissioned an ensign on the same day and received orders to report aboard the USS LACKAWANNA (AO40) at about the same time. While aboard the LACKAWANNA, my ship participated in the Hollandia campaign, Saipan, Guam, Battle of the Philippine Sea, invasion of the Philippines, Okinawa and was among the first ships to enter Tokyo Bay after the surrender by Japan.
