Retired United States Navy/ Naval Reserve Captain James ("Jim") Adams Conover, Jr., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at the age of 77, at his residence in Metairie, Louisiana. He was born in Absecon, New Jersey. He is survived by his wife Martha Caldera Conover of Metairie; daughters Arden C. Armstrong and husband Walt Armstrong, and Gail Conover all of Wayne, Pennsylvania; his stepdaughters M. Leslie Fawer and husband Jonathan Fawer, and Susan H. Gegenheimer and husband Kelly Gegenheimer, all of New Orleans, Louisiana; brother Robert L. Conover of Norwich, Connecticut; and sisters Olive Leads and husband David of Lady Lake, Florida, and Helene Barr and husband Chester of Northfield, NJ. He is also survived by six grandchildren Andrew Armstrong, Elizabeth Armstrong, Seth Fawer, Tanner Fawer, James Gegenheimer and Henry Gegenheimer. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, James Adams Conover, III and Miriam Bibus Conover. A longtime resident of the New Orleans metro area, Jim was retired from active duty in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Naval Reserve. He retired from Merrill Lynch, as a financial advisor after years of dedicated service. Jim was a board member of the NROTC Alumni Association, Kappa Sigma Alumni Association, Tulane University Alumni Association, and a member of the Bienville Club. Jim also held a bachelor's degree in Physics from Tulane University and a Master's degree in Geology from Louisiana State University. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Visitation at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Monday, November 10, 2008.
